Art meets city x
Marinella Senatore
Baden Baden, 2022
For Art Meets City, the Kurgarten in Baden-Baden, Germany, was transformed into an open-air art gallery, hosting three works by Italian artist Marinella Senatore, two of which were conceived specifically for the city's urban space.
The project's centerpiece is a site-specific light installation created for the façade of the Kurhaus Baden-Baden, where the language of the illuminations engages with the building's historic architecture and the surrounding public space.
The project reflects one of the central themes of Marinella Senatore's research: public participation. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the School of Narrative Dance, the Kurhaus Kolonnaden became a space open to the community, welcoming associations, musicians, performers, and dance groups.
The work “Bodies in Alliance” was also presented in the Kurgarten, accompanied by a quote from philosopher Judith Butler, inviting visitors to engage with the work and become part of it. The intervention thus builds a dialogue between contemporary art, light installations, urban space, and collective participation.
